With Its Tower Ticking Time

Coolidge Corner, Summer de Berger
Like a castle of medieval times
at the heart of Coolidge Corner stands
an old building reviving the Tudor style
with its tower ticking time
The clock’s hands warming up under the sun
welcome the interlude of summer
as gnomes of heat grow swaying
old majestic houses
The ancient wood in Brookline whispers
as it awakes from its discreet sleep,
careful not to let any
of its well-kept secrets slip…
And as the mechanical green dragon
roars through the streets,
parading in a hurry
to a continuous rhythm,
a serpentine of carefree children stroll
on enchanted and quiet sidewalks
ignoring the rush of the adults
ignoring the rush of it all…
